Equipment
- 11×15 Sheet Pan
- Parchment Paper
- 2-Cup Pourable Measuring Cup
- Rubber Spatula
Ingredients
-
3 Large Bananas: Slice these ripe bananas into perfect rounds to create a sweet and creamy base for your bark.
-
10 Ounces Dark Chocolate Chips: Melt these rich dark chocolate chips to pour over the bananas, adding a decadent, smooth layer of flavor.
-
1 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter: Melted peanut butter gives the bark a smooth, nutty richness that pairs perfectly with the chocolate and bananas.
-
1 Tablespoon Coarse Sea Salt: A sprinkle of coarse sea salt on top adds the perfect finishing touch, balancing out the sweetness with a savory pop.

Step-by-Step Instructions
You can find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
1. Line a 11×15 baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Slice the three bananas into ½-inch slices.

3. Place the sliced bananas on the sheet pan in a rectangular shape, leaving some room on the sides of the pan. This doesn’t need to be perfect, but try to get the slices touching each other and you’re good to go.

4. Once you have all your bananas lined up the way you like it, place the peanut butter into a microwave-safe pourable measuring cup. Microwave on high for 40 seconds, stopping after 20 seconds to stir before resuming.
5. Pour the melted peanut butter over the top of the banana slices. Try not to pour it off the edges of the bananas and keep it closer to the center. Use a rubber spatula to gently spread the peanut butter over the bananas evenly.

6. Place the sheet pan with banana slices and peanut butter in the freezer for about 30 minutes.
7. Before pulling the pan out of the freezer, place the chocolate chips in a clean, pourable measuring cup and microwave them on high for 2 minutes, pausing every 30 seconds to stir the chips, until they’re completely smooth when stirred.
8. Remove the pan from the freezer and pour the melted chocolate over the top of the peanut butter and bananas. Again, try to not pour it off the edge and keep more to the center.

9. Use a clean rubber spatula to gently spread the chocolate even across the peanut butter sheet.

10. Once you’re satisfied with how the chocolate looks, sprinkle the sea salt over the top and place the bark back in the freezer for 20-30 minutes or until hardened.

11. Break into pieces and enjoy!

Tips for Making the Perfect Viral Chocolate Banana Bark
-
Use Ripe Bananas: Make sure your bananas are ripe but not overripe. They should be sweet and soft enough to slice easily, but not too mushy. This will help the bark hold together better and have the right texture.
-
Choose High-Quality Chocolate: The type of chocolate you use makes a huge difference in flavor. Go for high-quality dark chocolate, like Ghirardelli or another brand you love. The better the chocolate, the better the overall taste of your bark.
-
Don’t Skip the Freezing Step: After spreading the peanut butter and before adding the chocolate, make sure to freeze the banana and peanut butter layer for at least 30 minutes. This ensures everything stays in place when you add the melted chocolate, preventing a messy situation.
-
Go for Even Layers: When spreading the peanut butter and chocolate, aim for even layers. This helps each bite have the perfect balance of banana, peanut butter, and chocolate.
-
Customize Your Toppings: While sea salt adds a great touch, feel free to experiment with other toppings. Chopped nuts, dried fruit, or even a drizzle of honey could make it even more delicious. Customize it to your tastes!
-
Store It Properly: Make sure to store your bark in an airtight container in the fridge if you plan on eating it within a week. For longer storage, keep it in the freezer to maintain freshness and avoid any sogginess from the bananas.
-
Cut Carefully: Once the bark is frozen solid, break it into pieces gently with your hands or use a sharp knife for cleaner edges. This ensures each piece stays intact and looks appetizing.

Get Creative!
-
Swap the Peanut Butter: If you’re not a fan of peanut butter, try using almond butter, cashew butter, or even sunflower seed butter for a different flavor profile. Each nut butter will bring its own unique twist to the bark.
-
Add Crunchy Toppings: For extra texture, sprinkle chopped nuts like almonds, walnuts, or pistachios on top of the chocolate before it sets. You could also try crushed pretzels for a salty crunch!
-
Try Different Chocolate: While dark chocolate is a classic choice, why not experiment with other types? White chocolate, milk chocolate, or even a combination of the two would all work beautifully and give the bark a new flavor.
-
Mix in Dried Fruits: Dried cranberries, cherries, or raisins could be the perfect addition to bring a little tartness and chewiness to the bark. Just sprinkle them over the top before the chocolate sets.
-
Spice It Up: If you love a little heat with your sweet, try adding a dash of cinnamon, cayenne pepper, or chili powder to the chocolate for a warm, spicy kick. It’s a fun way to surprise your taste buds!
-
Go for a Tropical Twist: Add dried coconut flakes, mango, or pineapple for a tropical version of the bark. The combination of chocolate, banana, and tropical fruits will transport you to a beachy paradise.
-
Drizzle with Honey or Caramel: For a little extra sweetness, drizzle some honey or caramel over the top after adding the chocolate. It will add another layer of flavor and make the bark even more indulgent.
-
Make it a Banana Split Bark: Layer some maraschino cherries, a sprinkle of crushed graham crackers, and mini chocolate chips to give your bark a banana split-inspired twist!

Serving & Storing
-
Serve It Chilled: For the best texture and flavor, serve the bark straight from the fridge or freezer. The chocolate will stay firm, and the bananas will have the perfect bite. It’s a great refreshing treat on a warm day!
-
Perfect for Sharing: This bark is perfect for parties, gatherings, or as a fun snack to share with family. Just break it into bite-sized pieces and serve on a platter. It’s sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike!
-
Store in the Fridge: If you plan to enjoy the bark within a week, store it in an airtight container in the fridge. It will stay fresh and easy to grab when you’re in the mood for something sweet.
-
Freeze for Longer Storage: To keep the bark for a longer period, store it in the freezer. Just place it in an airtight container or ziplock bag, and it will stay fresh for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to eat it, simply pull it out and let it thaw for a few minutes.
-
Keep the Layers Intact: When storing, make sure the pieces of bark aren’t stacked directly on top of each other. You can place parchment paper between layers to prevent them from sticking together.
-
On-the-Go Snack: If you’re looking for a quick snack to take with you, grab a couple of pieces of the bark and pack them in a container. It’s an easy, portable option for a healthier treat during the day. Just keep it chilled until you’re ready to enjoy it!
